Yeah, my screencast (and the site) is done for the fellowship! You can see the screencast and judge for yourself. I know I am a day late on my blog, but I wanted to have the video posted so I could link to it and folks could take a look at what I’ve done. (As an aside, I am creating this blog with “Windows Live Writer” which comes installed on Windows 7. So far I like it, and may have to download it to my non-Windows 7 computers.)
The week started by uploading what I thought was the last of my content before connecting it all together. It turns out I was missing a few things which I was able to add as I was linking the pages together for each content module. When everything was finally uploaded I totaled up the amounts and found I had created 32 videos that run just under 3.5 hours. I uploaded 834 megabytes of data files (mostly video) that is stored in 263 files and organized into 52 folders. Tom Cantu was right when he said I should not plan on teaching and building the course in the same semester!!
The screencast was fairly quick to assemble since I had already recorded the introduction and conclusion so all I had to add was the actual tour of the website. Just last weekend I installed Camtasia 7 on my laptop and it came in very handy. The new version will allow the recording of the narrator and the audio output from the program at the same time. That means I can walk through the site and when I click on a movie clip, Camtasia will not only capture the video, but also the audio. This was a great help since I wanted to include some pieces of the videos in my finale. The new Camtasia 7 also has callouts that look like some ghostly hand is drawing them on the screen as the video plays (I used a checkmark callout in the above video).
That’s about it for this week – very momentous. Now I have to walk through the entire site and click on every link, re-read every word, and start looking at it as if I were an editor rather than an author.
Have a good week.
John
